More fish dishes... and a cute Jed-i.

Before....   and after.  Mmmm, tuna sashimi!
The freshest sushi Katie Jones had ever had!
We were all covered in  disgusting sweaty, sea-salty, sunblock residue, fish guts, blood and scaly grime by the end of the day.  It was good.
Displaying the catches.
The first time most of these sailors have spent on open waters!

I can't get enough of this footage of Catie trying to reel in her first catch. Her flailing feet get me every time.

Commence fishing!

Hitting the open waters.  This was at about 0600.  (Our carpool left at 0430.)

Driving home. Night-time snapshots of the American Village.

Jed is working on his "dessert" - we both got sushi-shaped suckers for the ride home.

Here's our finished pile! Our tab is calculated based on the type of dish it was served on. The prices are posted on plates affixed to the wall. (can you figure out our bill?)

Shrimp tempura rolls! A crowd favorite!

Umi-budo (sea grapes) seaweed. The "grapes" are salty and pop in your mouth.

I always order Kani (crab) soup. I love the presentation. (The bowl is served with a lid and steam billows out after it's lifted)

On the left we have salmon and avocado with sauce topped with fish eggs on rice, wrapped with seaweed. (really - it's VERY good!)

On the right we have crab on rice with melted cheese and a lemon slice.

Of course I had to get some photos of my favorite sushi joint, Ichiban-Tei. Also referred to by Americans as on of the sushi-go-rounds.
One can either choose prepared dishes that pass by on the conveyor belt or request something fresh from one of the sushi "artists".

This landmark outside the "Legion gate" of one of the main bases served as an important landmark that helped me orient myself! It's a pachinko (slots) parlor off probably the second most-travelled roads by servicemembers.
"Our" Lawson. This is the convenience store two doors down from our home (in the opposite direction of the sea wall). Some of my favorite memories involve stopping at the Lawson for ice cream before walking to the sea wall to sit and watch the sunset.

A look down our street toward the sea wall(standing across from our house)

This photo doesn't exactly do this playground justice but there are not many of this caliber left in the U.S.! (this was *really* high!)

Family tombs dotting the park.

I will *definitely* miss the random kitties running around the park near our house!

This calico pranced across the street in front of us to meet up with her kitten.

Her orange kitty seemed a bit old to still be nursing but I suppose I never pondered the weaning habits of cats!

I've been meaning to snap this pic as well. This a sign along the seawell that we often walk / run along near our home.

It certainly doesn't make me want to enter the water!

The upper left selection is my "usual". You can get it cold or hot. (cold indicated by the blue sticker beneath it. Hot of course is red.)

But behold... if you can't find your favorite selection just walk another block to the next machine and you may be in luck (can you see the blue machine in the distance in the picture on the right? These machines are truly everywhere.

The vending machines outside the "noodle shack" by our house.

I've been known to dart to these machines before taking off to the hospital for a morning shift when I've not left enough time to brew my own coffee!

... some more photos of things we see every day.

This is the Okinawan "noodle shack" next to our house.

... and here is the performance at 9PM the next day. They gave out candy at the end of this performance. (the only time Jed felt as though he missed out by not viewing the performances.)
This was the 11 PM performance.
I could not find a camera setting that liked these flood lights!
Again - right outside our bedroom window on a weekday... and an alarm clock set for 0530.
Despite the festive drumming Jed's slumber was undisturbed. :-)

This was at approximately 9PM sometime last week.

They returned at 11 PM and parked themselves in the instersection outisde our home for a full Obon festival performance.
