The Stayin Alive strut and more Karaoke

I had a barbecue on our porch for a few staff that are leaving this summer. When it got dark we brought it inside for a night of Karaoke and dancing.

Have you ever tried anything like this? Katie hadn't either. It's a waffle taco.

On the way home we stopped at a "Ma and Pop"-type roadside cafe. It reminded us a lot of the type of place one might stop at on a trip home from the Boundary Waters. It had a log-cabin feel with a tropical splash.

A couple of weekends ago Katie, Jed and I tried "adventure camping". So many people merely drive North up the main highway, see a nice beach and pull over to set up camp for the night. Unfortunately we didn't hit the road until later in the day and it seems that the best "adventure camp sites"are at the Northern tip of the island / on the way back down the East side. It was getting toward dusk and I'm not sure how "adventuresome" my comrades felt. We pulled in when we reached the military camping / cabin / beach resort, Okuma. Flush toilets 50 feet from our site, outdoor family movies, a small golf course, a general store and beach rental equipment. The sites were one right next to the other, but they all faced a beautiful beach with a great ocean and coastal view. The next morning we packed up and headed toward Hiji Falls for a day-hike. We took some great pics there but unfortunately they never made it out of Jed's camera before he left again.

A fell0w spectator commented to me, "Wow, Jed really is the picture of skin health, isn't he?"

Yes he was. And if anyone wanted to know it's SPF 35 he was sportin that day.

This is Mabel. For being a rodent she has been surprisingly entertaining. Jed agrees to having been amused when she rolls around the house in her hamster ball.

When Jed was gone I got tired of coming home to an empty house. I started looking for a low-maintenance pet that wasn't a cat. I came home with a fluffy orange hamster on my 27th birthday.

With the warmer weather came the summer whites uniform inspection.

This is Awase Meadows Golf Course, popular to Americans and Japanese alike. It also offers some decent scenic views.

Not long after he came home the weather became much nicer. Here's our first golf outing in a while (per Peter's request)

Shortly after Jed came home was the annual OkiNapa. At OkiNapa, people pretend for an evening that they actually know something about wine and "taste test" at various vendors' tables. Needless to say most of those who show up aren't exactly true connisseurs but it's an immense social event on the island.

The Marine Corps knows how to fly in comfort. It rained the night before they flew out of Korea.

I've said it before, but... How cute is my husband??!

Here is Jed after disembarking. I could see him smile from quite the distance. It was a cold and wet few months that he had been in Korea.
